We’ve talked a bit in class recently about the pros and cons of anonymous blogging. An article in today’s Redherring.com, “Phantom Bloggers, Real Companies,” discusses some current and former anonymous bloggers…their motivations, their impact.
The article notes that Apple has become the latest target of an anonymous blogger, The Masked Blogger. It also quotes JMC alum Robert Scoble, of Scobleizer fame, who blogged for Microsoft.
In the article, Scoble points out that “the problem with anonymous blogging is that if you don’t like your employees talking with customers in the public eye, you let anonymous people control your PR.”
Food for thought for companies that try to ban bloggers.
